The Austrian artist and author Maria Theresia Litschauer is documenting the living and working conditions of displaced Jews from Hungary who were subject to forced labor in Lower Austria/Waldviertel (1944/45). She developed a method in which she combines in an overwhelming density archival work, interviews with eyewitnesses, precise photographic documentation of the places and the personal documents she has found or that have been made available to her. She has succeeded in creating an extremely detailed, striking account of processes and events that have been largely repressed and forgotten up to the present.
