Franz Kapfer Festspiele captures the drama of love in new or old images. With the exception of the work Cinecittà 2004, all the photographs date from 1991, when Franz Kapfer was working for the Salzburg Festival. The artist approaches sculpture by borrowing and borrowing. His own body is reshaped—Kapfer's alter ego acts with sculptural set pieces and interacts with the stone images at the Kapitelplatz fountain and in St. Sebastian's cemetery as well as with the Elisabeth monument. Neptune, Sissi and Death stand for identifications of the artist, the woman and transience. The sculpture remains a substitute object. Kapfer exposes himself to her, exposes himself as if he would find peace there. In Rome, in Cinecittà—the realm of the backdrop—the Salzburg world stage is then played out once again on the reconstructed Fontana di Trevi.
